How different would our lives be if we lived as what we really are: foreigners? Would our goals change? Would our words have more meaning? Would our desires be more pure?
Think about the things that truly matter to you above all else. Where did those feelings of allegiance originate? Happiness? Pleasure? Intellect? Or have we prioritized these things as a result of our relationships with The Lord?
God is the Author of all creation. He knows what He is doing. This means that He also constructed the human heart and soul. He constructed them with a purpose. This purpose is not for our harm or for the harm of those around us...our tendency to gravitate towards harm is a direct result of our sin nature. This same nature that essentially controls this world, where we are temporary residents.
So, since this world is not our permanent home, shouldn't we invest our efforts in lasting goals, relationships, allegiances, and endeavors?
What use is it to follow the evil patterns of this world, if we are truly committed to furthering The Kingdom? None. In fact, it is counterproductive.
Our love for The Lord should be so strong that all else is loss in comparison. We should be so thankful simply for the fact that He gave us life that we use our every breath to bring Him glory.
Have we taken out eyes off the prize? Have we fallen so far that we wake up every morning desiring to please ourselves rather than our Creator? What a shame.
If I find in myself desires nothing in this world can satisfy, I can only conclude that I was not made for here.
