Can't You See?

"'You don't have enough faith,' Jesus told them. 'I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.'" --Matthew 17:20

This could be one of the least understood verses that we use on a regular basis. It is definitely one of those verses that I have always known, but only lately comprehended. If we have even that tiny bit of faith, we can trust in the Lord completely. I think that all too many people commit portions of their hearts to the Lord, thinking that that is sufficient...it is not. He is our portion...He doesn't deserve only a portion. Mmm. How different could our world look if we embraced the promises of the Lord, sought His face before all else, committed our lives to His purposes, and stopped looking out for ourselves?! Don't we know that when we truly make Christ our Lord, everything else will fall in place? Haven't we realized that He is looking out for our best interests at all times, even when we can't see what He is doing? Why can't we see that nothing in this world can fulfill us like Him?! Nothing! Why do we try to place so much emphasis on status and self-esteem, when He is ALL that matters? Honestly, it doesn't matter what people think of you or how you feel about yourself...we have the joy of the Lord! Sure, life is a challenge...but it is not nearly as hard with Him on our side as it is when we try to go it alone. Do we really believe that He is more than enough for us?

If we have true and complete faith in Him, we can accomplish anything and everything He leads us to. Do we really believe this? Why do we put limitations on ourselves, when He is dwelling within us and empowering us for His plans? How much more could we do for Him if we denied ourselves completely and just let him have total control to work through us? We can even defeat the devil himself...because God is the leader of our army! Satan has nothing on us and he can't even touch us if we surrender to the Lord's authority and let His power permeate us.

How many times have we heard the story of the parting of the Red Sea? I'm pretty sure there was a flannel-graph for that in Sunday School when I was little. But do we really understand the faith of Moses and the Israelites that brought them to and through this integral part of history? I will venture to say that we do not. Exodus 14:13-14 says "But Moses told the people, 'Don't be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. The Lord Himself will fight for you. Just stay calm." Wow. Stand still and watch the Lord rescue you. Do we have this much confidence in the Lord as we live from day to day? Do we trust Him with the little things as much as Moses trusted Him for this miracle? He is the only one worthy and capable of this kind of trust. This hope will not lead to disappointment.

Be Still. Rest. Find His Peace. Trust. Live In Faith. Fall In Love With Him.
