There is an old song that says we each have a God-shaped hole in us. He is the only One who can fill up that portion of our souls. And we are supposed to feel empty until we ask Him to come and fill us with His Spirit. So why do we turn to other things, seeking this fulfillment? That is just a waste of time and energy...and it leads only to disappointment. All we need is found in Him.
"Some wandered in the wilderness, lost and homeless. Hungry and thirsty, they nearly died. 'Lord, help!' they cried in their trouble, and He rescued them from their distress. He led them straight to safety, to a city where they could live. Let them praise the Lord for His great love and for the wonderful things He has done for them. For He satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things." --Psalm 107:4-9
He is faithful to rescue us from our vain attempts at satisfying our own desires. But why do we even need to suffer in the first place? Seek the Lord above all else. He is more than enough.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take." --Proverbs 3:5-6
